The United States Coast Guard and
Auxiliary urge all boaters to file a Float Plan
before going on the water. Float Plans help search
and rescue personnel to locate missing boaters.
On any given day, unexpected marine emergencies
caused by engine failure, boating accidents or sudden
weather changes may require a search and rescue
operation that could be more quickly executed if
float plan data is readily available ashore.
A float plan includes information about the
vessel, the time of departure, estimated time of
arrival and the planned course of travel. The float
plan is left ashore with a relative, friend or a
person at the dock. Should you not return by the time
indicated in the plan, the holder of the plan will
have been instructed to call authorities.
